Katie Holmes causes shivers on âThink You Can Danceâ
Last night, the worst-kept secret in TV-land was finally out; Katie Holmes appeared on, ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’
The 30-year old actress stunned both her fans and the critics with a high-octane homage to the great Judy Garland - a song-and-dance version of Judy’s farewell to MGM, ‘Get Happy’ from the musical, âSummer Stock,â which co-starred Gene Kelly.
Dressed in a white, retro skirt-suit, she began by emerging from an old, classic car to be quickly surrounded by some buff, male dancers. She then leans seductively against a streetlight as the lyrics begin. In flash, the scene changes to an on-stage routine, with Katie now clad in no more than a black hat, tuxedo and sheer fishnet nylons.
As she high-kicks her way through the Broadway-style piece, the dancers keep stride, even lifting Kate in the air so she can dance on-board a piano. For her grand finale, Kate tossed her hat in the air, and one nimble dancer retrieved it mid-flight.
The former Dawson’s Creek star signed on for this 100th-show special when Exec Producer, Nigel Lythgoe asked her to join his new children’s foundation, ‘Dizzy Feet.’ Katie loved the idea, “This is the next generation. It’s important to give them every opportunity to grow and discover what they like,” she told Brit show host, Cat Deeley.
And the audience was tough; Joey Luft, Judy Garland’s own son from her marriage to second husband, Sid Luft, was watching her dance and seemed quite impressed. But as for poor Nigel, the man was near tears, âShe really put herself out there and she didn’t have to do that,â he said on the show. âI’m delighted with her performance.”
Nigel has since told Us magazine that, while the actress donated her whole fee to the cause, she’s now caught the dance bug…and bad! âShe’s filming a movie in Australia and called me and said, ‘I’ve found some great classes to take while I’m here!’ She got really hooked!”
